Yin Energy Balls

Get in touch with your dark side with these Yin Energy Balls.

Winter is right around the corner which means its time to make a couple changes to your diet and lifestyle. Chinese medicine philosophy believes that with each season change our bodies naturally gravitate towards different foods and exercises. By eating certain foods at certain times of the year you have a better chance at keeping your body in a harmonious and balanced state.

Winter is all about yin, the kidneys and the bones. Yin energy is a slow moving, dark and inward focused energy. According to Chinese medicine, we get our fundamental energy from our kidneys, so it is essential that we take extra care of them. Most black foods are known to nourish the kidney and therefore support the essential energy it gives us. The black sesame seeds act as the yin tonic our kidneys are craving.

I wanted to come up with a snack that could quell my sweet tooth without making me suffer the consequences afterwards. Dates are like natures candy. They’re packed with antioxidants and fiber so it makes it a much healthier choice when it comes to getting that sugar fix because your body won’t experience the same crash you get with eating refined sugars.

These energy balls are the perfect combination of ingredients to help balance the yin & yang aspect of your body. The maca root is there to give you that extra “oomf!” as it helps boost your natural yang energy.

These are super easy to make and really yummy! Leave a comment for me and tell me what you think.

Instructions

  1. Blend together the sunflower seeds, coconut, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, maca powder, reishi powder and salt in a food processor until you get a fine texture.

  2. Add in your pitted dates, vanilla, water and almond butter. Blend on low for a few minutes until the mixture starts to stick together. Add a tiny bit more water if it’s looking too dry.

  3. Remove the mixture and shape into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap or parchment paper and stick it in the freezer for ten minutes to harden.

  4. After removing from the freezer, take a tbsp measure and scoop into individual balls, molding between both palms in a circular motion.

  5. Dip the molded energy balls into the bowl of black sesame seeds, and then roll again between your palms to press the seeds in. After plating your Yin Energy Balls, you can lightly dust the tops with cacao powder with a spoon. Enjoy!
